What is orthopedic/musculoskeletal physiotherapy?

Orthopedic (aka: musculoskeletal) physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy that aims to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate conditions affecting the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons of the body.

Why can orthopedic physiotherapy be important for a pregnant person or a person postpartum?

During the pregnancy & postpartum period, a person’s body will experience many hormonal changes. Body regions will become more elastic and expand (ie: the pelvis will expand to allow for more space for baby), and other areas will become more tense (ie: sometimes people will develop tension in their glutes because of changes to their walking pattern as baby grows).
