Intrusive thoughts are unwanted and often distressing thoughts that suddenly pop into your mind. They can provoke anxiety or emotional discomfort and are especially common during pregnancy and postpartum. For example, thoughts like “What if I drop my baby?” may feel upsetting, but they are incredibly normal. The more we try to push these thoughts away, the more persistent they can become. Intrusive thoughts do not define you. Noticing them, recognizing that they are just thoughts—not reality—and allowing them to pass can help you feel more at ease.
